Bergforsk Foundation
SveMin (Swedish Association of Mines, Mineral and Metal Producers) has delegated responsibility for the mining industry’s joint R&D matters to the Bergforsk Foundation. Bergforsk Foundation is headed by LKAB, Boliden and Zinkgruvan with representation on the board from Luleå University of Technology. The purpose of the foundation is to promote research and development in exploration technology, mining technology, rock construction technology, minerals technology and environmental technology. The foundation is in charge of Bergforsk and is also the majority shareholder in Nordic Rock Tech Centre AB, RTC.

Bergforsk
Bergforsk is at this point primarily the mining industry’s forum for prioritising and coordinating the industry’s “virtual sector research institute”, which consist mainly of research centres at Luleå University of Technology. Bergforsk is headed by the Bergforsk Foundation.

Georange
Georange was formed in 1999 and has played an important role in filling the previous vacuum in R&D on exploration/ore geology and the mine environment. Georange has also been given an important role for regional function analyses, cluster development and build-up of the joint umbrella organisation Bergforsk.
